ENGINEER (CIVIL / ENVIRONMENTAL / WATER RESOURCES)

Bomba is looking for 3 exceptional Engineers (Civil / Environmental / Water Resources) to join our innovative dynamic Public Private Partnership (PPP) sustainable water service delivery work in Mwanza and Mara regions, Tanzania. Bomba supplies water services and products to the rural villages meeting the demand for water and providing associated products for smart water consumption which implies meeting national and often international service, quality and health standards for water services.
With Bomba’s AT HOME approach our goal is that we deliver the services at home and put all our efforts to maximize inclusion of the rural population and businesses. We put ambitious targets that within 5 years of starting in a village the coverage of services has reached >75%.

Station:
The successful applicants will be stationed at BUNDA, SHIRATI, or SERENGETI.

Overall Responsibility:
Under the guidance, the Engineer (Civil / Environmental / Water Resources) responsible for overseeing construction- involving supervising work crews, maintaining personnel and cost records, and obtaining permits. They also need to understand regulatory and compliance standards to ensure that systems meet requirements for safety, efficiency, and environmental impact. Including working in partnership with Community Owned Water Supply Organization (COWSO). The Officer is responsible for engage, facilitate, coach, guide, support, manage, monitor all technical staff and Schemes within Bomba, and in close consultation with the Service and Delivery Manager.

Specific Responsibilities
1. Asset management plays a major part in a water engineer's job. This involves repairing, maintaining and building structures that control water resources
2. Understand overall schemes, such as sewer improvement schemes, and associated structures, such as pumping stations, and pipework (the scale of the design may range from an initial outline to a full, detailed design);
3. Preparing tender documents as a basis for construction;
4. Reviewing technical submissions;
5. Liaising with various bodies and individuals, including local authorities, government agencies, clients, contractors, residents, suppliers, technical experts and other consultants;
6. Working collaboratively with other businesses;
7. Supporting other project managers and directors within the business and across the wider market;
8. Keeping up to date with environmental matters, and being aware of policy and developments in this area;
9. Presenting technical data or project results to both technical and non-technical clients and colleagues;
10. Monitoring the progress of projects from beginning to end - from the feasibility stage, to design through to construction and handover - or supervising one section of a large project;
11. Controlling budgets at project level;
12. Administering contracts and ensuring that work is completed to deadline;
13. Supervising the operation and maintenance of water and sewerage infrastructure;
14. Using computer simulations to analyze, for example, potential pipe failure;
15. Managing staff, including other engineers, technicians and site workers;

Other general duties and tasks being too;
i. General supervision of day to day running and operation of the water supply scheme
ii. Undertaking technical and feasibility studies and site investigations;
iii. Ensuring that water supply scheme runs smoothly and that there is steady service to customers.
iv. Detect leaks, measures to controls, service connection and cut offs.
v. Monitor and control meter readings and maintenance, tank inspection and maintenance including record keeping.
vi. Undertake sufficient inventory of spare parts (valves, corporation and curb stops, meters and meter boxes, pipe dresser couplings, tapping saddles, etc.)

Qualifications, Competency and Attributes
• University and/or College degree or Equivalent Qualifications in a relevant field or Water, Engineering, with at least a year experience or equivalent combination of education and preferred 2 years of experience in the role.
• The engineer shall be required to undertake surveys and designs of the network, sketches of different structures as need may arise, knowledge on epanet and AutoCAD’s an added advantage.
• Previous experience implementing Water Scheme will be an added advantage.
• Interest and Passion for the Water Sector.
• Demonstrated team working qualities, and ability to deliver quality results, curiosity and passion to learn, innovate, be creative, take thoughtful risks/challenges and get things done.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Must be a people-person, firm but balanced with ability to work with people with diverse personalities
• Ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet deadlines and resolve conflicting demands.
• Socially confident and able to create a strong presence with leadership peers and staff at Bomba.
